Well this is a nwe one from me. An Avanti S EDAN.
this isnt an original its a 1990 model. and boy is it neat weird. It has a fiber glass body, and underneath its a Chevy B body Caprice. Ad says it has a 5.o but shouldn’t it be a 5.7L? I guess what they are calling a 5.0 is actually a 305. kinda of a bummer.
so it’ s actually this. quite the transformation.
it looks to tall, like the wheel arches are too large. I think I’d lower it a good 1.5 inches or more. Also this rear end is a mess
the modern bumper, and lack of chrome, and addition of mandated reflectors . doesn’t work with the tailights compare it to the original.

All the Avantis from the late ‘80s/early ‘90s used GM platforms - they ran out of NOS Studebaker chassis in the mid ‘80s and had to do a total redesign of the body and interior. Their owner at the time had ambitions of building Avanti into a sort of American Porsche and wanted to do a lot of range extensions, but they collapsed in 1991.

The rear doesn’t bother me, but looking at the front face makes me sad.

honestly i’ m not a huge fan of them either. id take a 53 Stud over one any day.

4 and I saw one of these at the Pi
ttsburgh Vintage Grand Prix this year and both had to do a double take. Turns out they made a few of them, but not many. Only time I’ve ever seen or heard of one; I don’t remember what color it was (he has a picture I think) but by proximity, it could be this same one.

Oh yeah I thought I heard about Avanti coming back in some way, hey if they want to transform those old boring sedans, go ahead! There are a couple originals here around Marin. I see an old lady in a gold coupe, she is so old I bet they are the original owner. Oh I see here, lots of things I didn’t know:

Yeah I don’t love them but the old original coupe is of that era, there is an old lady I see driving one and it just fits that time. I would never say oh I love the Avanti design, it’s amazing, but it just is what it is. The lady has a gold one, it sort of works somehow.
